What are the rules of cornhole?

Cornhole is a popular outdoor game typically played with two teams of two players each. The objective of the game is to score points by tossing bean bags onto a raised wooden platform with a hole in it. Here are the basic rules of cornhole: Equipment: You need two cornhole boards and eight bean bags (four of one color for each team). The boards are typically placed 27 feet apart from front edge to front edge. Setup: Place the boards on a flat surface facing each other. Each board should be positioned with the hole at the top center and the front edge of the board 27 feet away from the front edge of the opposite board. Scoring: A bag that goes through the hole counts for 3 points. A bag that lands on the board and stays on it without going through the hole counts for 1 point. A bag that doesn’t land on the board or goes off the board entirely doesn’t score any points. Gameplay: The game is played in innings. In each inning, players from one team toss all four of their bags, followed by the opposing team tossing their four bags. Players can toss from anywhere behind the front edge of their own board. Cancellation Scoring: Only one team can score in each inning. Points earned by one team cancel out points earned by the other. For example, if Team A scores 5 points and Team B scores 3 points in an inning, Team A’s score for that inning would be 2 points (5 – 3 = 2). Winning the Game: The game typically ends when one team reaches or exceeds a certain number of points, usually 21. The team that reaches this score first wins the game. However, both teams must have an equal number of innings. Additional Rules: There are additional rules regarding fouls, foot faults, and other specific gameplay situations. These can vary depending on the official rules being followed or any house rules established before the game. Remember, while these are the basic rules of cornhole, variations and house rules may apply depending on where and with whom you are playing.
